Week 9 Reading and Writing

Hi guys~

This is the first time I write a reading blog again after two weeks! For this week's reading task, we have to go back over to the readings and writing assignments that we did and reflect on them. I used the questions that are given to us.

1. Overall, how well are the reading and writing assignments working for you?

I find the reading tasks very useful because I applied the knowledge that I learned from them to my game project. It also makes me consider other things such as what would the future players feel if they play my game i.e. boring, thrilling, or exciting? I also used some of the articles that are essential such as the Game Elements, Game Fun, Exploring Game Design, and especially the Games MDA and GDD.

Even though the writing assignments are challenging to do, it still helped me to improve my writing skills. I was also able to learn new vocabulary that makes my writing more professional. I also find that my grammar improved though sometimes I still make mistakes. At first, I find the writing tasks were not enjoyable but overtime, I started to have more interest in them and enjoy writing.

2. What has been your favorite reading so far?

The reading task that I enjoyed was a Feedback Thoughts reading article called Creative Live by Maria Popova about Neil Gaiman (here is a link to my blog). I find the speech motivational and inspiring as an art student because I tend to take risks with my artwork. Here is one of my favorite sayings that I heard from his speech:

"Self-doubt is a part of doing something really difficult that you care about deeply."

3. Are your reading notes helping you each week with your game?

Yes. The reading notes that I make each week really helps me with my game because they are usually connected to the topic of the game every week which is handy for us. It also gives us a head start on what we have to apply to our game development. For example: before we started our Game Design Document (GDD), there was a reading task about it that also includes different types of the template we can use.

4. Have you discovered any new reading/research strategies?

Yes. During this semester, I was able to learn multiple strategies that helped me to complete my works. One of the things I found helpful is that I take inspirational quotes/sayings from the articles I have read throughout this semester and these encourage me to keep going and complete my work even though I still procrastinate sometimes haha.

5. Are you happy with your game project?

To be honest, I did not have a good start in my game project because I got nervous and panicked making me wasted so much time trying to fixed errors and installed assets that were not useful to my game. I also felt that I was not ready to start my game at all. However, I decided to start my game again and it was the best decision because everything is fine now (so far) which I am happy.

6. What do you consider to be your biggest accomplishment(s) for this class?

My biggest accomplishment for this class is that I did not miss any important tasks that we have to do each week. I think that it is a big fulfillment for me as there is still a lot of work to complete on other modules as well. I also feel more comfortable writing now and I can communicate with other students better. Doing the blog comments really help me to meet new people and learned that there are so many talented people around me making me feel competitive (in a good way) and eager to learn new things from them and other modules.

Good luck for this week guys!

Introduction to a future Animator 😁

If you've been reading my blog post since the day I started, you have read my first introduction. However, I haven't really talked about myself. So in this post, I will along with questions from the tasks we have given. 😁 My photo from last year First of all my name is Flosie Jane Sazon, I am currently a 2nd-year student studying Creative Digital Media at the  Technological University of Dublin located in Blanchardstown Campus. I'm 20 years old (even though I don't look my age πŸ˜‚) and I have been living in Ireland since I was 13. This course wasn't actually my first choice even though I love art. My first choice was something about business and language which was way different from what I'm doing now, but I'm really happy that I'm doing what I love. Even though there were a lot of times convincing my parents but everything went well in the end.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ What was the best class you took last semester? why? Even though I enjoyed Web Development and Design Proc...

Unity Tutorial 04

This week's tutorial lesson was very straightforward and easy to follow. I also did not have any problem with the Unity tutorial videos and the software this time which I am really glad about. I learned how to apply codes that can destroy the objects when the collision is detected. I also know how to add the "Game Over" message in coding if the farmer missed feeding one of the animals. The tutorial lesson also taught us how to spawn the animals at timed intervals so that the animals will appear randomly on the game. Here are the things that I learned for this week's Unity tutorial: Lesson 2.4 New functionality: Animals are spawned on timed interval and walk down on the screen and the animal gets past the player without getting fed, there's a "Game Over" trigger massage at the left bottom of the screen. When the projectile and animal collide, objects are removed right away. New Concepts/Skills: Create custom methods/functions InvokeRepeating() to repeat c...

Feedback Stretegies

Feedforward The first article that I read is called "Try Feedforward Instead of Feedback" by Marshall Goldsmith. He talks about how feedforward is more helpful than getting feedback. I learn that getting a feedback can have a negative effect to the person who is receiving it because they tend to get personal on their suggestions which some people cannot take. This is when Feedforward enters. Feedforwards is all about people listening to suggestions for the future then learn and help as much as they can. There are also eleven reasons to try Feedforward, but I will be only addressing some of them that I find personally works. 1. We can change the future. We can't change the past. Feedforward helps people focus on a positive future and not a failed past. This means that people who use feedforward does not concentrate on the mistakes of what the other person have, instead they give them advices on how to improve their work better for the future. I also think that giving peo...
