When Unity takes a long time to load Screenshot with the sound effects Hi guys~ For this week's project update, I tried to create my menu scene again but I still have a LOT of problems. At first, I tried to follow the same tutorial from this week's lab work task  and sadly it still did not work even though Shaun advised that I should not use the TextMesh Pro font as we thought it was the one that causes the problem. The tutorial was straightforward, but Unity kept crashing down, and even though I have all of it save during the process, everything that I have done still got deleted. I decided to look for another tutorial for the Main Menu, I found this 5-minute video tutorial . I find it helpful and it is simpler than the first tutorial. Unfortunately, while I'm nearly done making it, Unity crashed again, so I ended up having nothing is done which is very frustrating because I want to make a decent game by the end of this semester and Unity isn't cooperating :(. The only

Unity Tutorial 10

Adding collectible coins around the maze For this week's Unity tutorial lab, I decided to focus more on the other objects of my game such as the collectibles. At first, I decided to just scatter the whole coins around the pathway but it was taking me so much time. Then I realize that I could divide the coins by 5 and it was very helpful as I was able to finish placing the coins around in just 20-30mins. I was thinking to add another obstacle which was the "hole" but I still could not find a suitable tutorial for it. Then I remembered that we also have to create our main menu and the "congratulations" texts after the player completed the game. I found this tutorial on YouTube called Start Menu in Unity  and it was straightforward and easy to follow. However, as I finished setting up the whole scene and have the texts ready, the content I have done suddenly got deleted (which I keep saving along the way). It was very frustrating!! But I will try again today or dur

Unity Tutorial 09 (Self researched Unity Tutorial Videos)

Screenshot of my Game Project Update For this week's lab, we are able to pick our own unity tutorials that could help us code our game project. I am also glad that we did because I am behind with my game and it would take me a while to even complete one script!😩😂 There were also not many problems that occurred while I was coding my game today which barely happen as well.  I was also able to fix the camera, even though it's not what I really wanted the camera to be placed but it still works so I decided to leave it. If there would be enough time at the end of my game, I will try to fix it again. What I also accomplished today, is that I was able to find an easy tutorial on how to create a coin prefab and I also don't have to import any coin assets as I created one myself. From the YouTube Unity Tutorial that I found, there was a sound effect included which I also able to download free and I attached it to my coin. Overall, I am happy with my progress!   A Screenshot of my game this week For this week's progress, I decided to put a bit of texture in my terrain because I felt that it was too play every time I look at my game on the screen. However, this is not the design that I am aiming for as I want it to look more like a forest than just a simple maze but it will all depend if I will have more time to design my game. Today, I also realized that the player does not move on the left. Instead, it rotates, therefore, I have to fix it again and it took me a while to figure it out but luckily I was able to fix it.  The only problem I am trying to fix now is the camera. It follows the player as it moves around but whenever it enters the maze, the camera does not rotate/follow the angle of the player's direction making you not able to see what is in front of the player at all. This made me realized that coding my game will take a lot of time than I thought it would be. For the next week, I would like to focus on the camera rotation

First Playable

Hi guys! How is everyone going? Like some people who viewed my first time creating my game last week, I was really having difficulties starting it because of multiple errors and I also realized that I wasn't "emotionally" ready to start my game that time as it did not hit me yet. 😐 Fortunately this week, I was able to get comfortable when thinking about starting my game hahaha. I decided to start over again as I did not really want my maze to look like a very simple maze. If anyone hasn't seen it here is the link to my Prototype blog to have a quick view. First Screenshot of my game update The image above is my new updated maze map that I created. I also did the same first step where I used a Maze Generator to make a quick maze for me. I was also following a YouTube video that I found while doing my research before and it totally helped me to have a fresh start on my game because the tutorial was very straightforward. The Youtuber included the links to the softw

Prototype

Screenshot of before I added a ground texture Hi guys, another night, another blog! For this week's tasks, we have to start making our game project such as the basic things that could help us visualize and have a starting point. For this part, I was having a hard time starting because I couldn't find suitable assets for my game making me feel lost for a while and I panicked. I took a deep breath and decided to start again by looking at some prototype blogs that were already posted by other students to find some motivations and ideas that could help me rethink. Luckily I did find some inspirations as there are few students who are doing maze puzzles as well.  I used this maze generator website to create the maze for me instead of doing it from scratch which would take me a while to do. Thanks to Aoibhe, her blog helped me to remember that there's a maze generator! She also found a quick tutorial to make a maze as some of the videos I collected were too long and it has too

Game Design Document

3D ball For this week we started to create our Game Design Document where we place and share the important information about our game. The reading task that we did this week was very helpful to me as well because it gave me an idea of how to start the document. Here is the link to my  Game Design Document . I only use Word Document to do my Game Design Document because I feel more comfortable using it and I also think that it makes the document looks neater and easy to find information. However, my Game Design Document is not fully complete because it does not contain any images and audios at the moment. I will also make some changes along the way.  I hope that you will enjoy reading my Game Design Document and feel free to comment on what you think about it!

Game Vision Statement

Nature maze example Before I write my blog, I tried to do more research about my game to help me decide what would I include in my game and what should I remove. I also look for more video tutorials about puzzles to see how could I be able to create my game in Unity and fortunately, there are some useful tips that I learned from them.                     These are the sketches I made to visualize my game. I decided to have a normal square shape for my maze. The wall of the maze will also be more curve like a mountain style so it complements the shape of the ball. Game Genre Maze Puzzle The first genre of my game is a maze because it is a track of paths and hedges designed as a puzzle where you have to enter and find the exit. The maze that I will be making has also an adventure vibe to it as I will be designing my game as a nature theme where I surround the map with bushes, grass, and trees. There will also be hidden items/treasure around the maze making it more interesting for the pla

Game Idea Research

Maze  Inspiration Last week, I started to collect some game ideas and talk about what we like about them. However this week, we have to choose on out of all the game ideas we picked. The game that I decided to do is similar to "Roller Splat!" but in 3D instead because that is the type of game we are learning in Unity. I think that it will be helpful as I can utilize the skills that I learned from the tutorials to my project instead of studying another type of game. I will have more time to develop my game better if I stick to 3D style as well. Choosing this type of game is also a good starter, especially for people who want to make a game for the first time like me. My game will also be played in a first person point of view means that the camera of will be placed at the back following the ball inside the maze. While doing my secondary research, I find countless of game tutorials on YouTube that are related to the idea I am going for. Most of them are also made in Unity which

Game Brainstorm

Roller Splat! Roller Splat!  link The first game game idea I have in mind is Roller Splat! It is a puzzle type of game where you have to roll the paint ball every corner of the maze to complete the levels. This game is very satisfying for people who love relaxing games and puzzles like me 😂. I could play this game for hours and I won't get tired. The game level difficulty is also mixed up which is a good thing in my opinion because you don't have to think about how to accomplish the next game. The aim of this game is to relax so it won't be that challenging as you only want to play it on your spare time. Image of what the game look like. Link I decided to add this as one of my ideas because it is very simple and a fun game to play. The target audience for this is also diverse and everyone can play it. I also think that I can develop this in 2D style and to make my game different from the original, I could add coins through the pathways so the player could earn money to bu
