First Playable

Hi guys! How is everyone going? Like some people who viewed my first time creating my game last week, I was really having difficulties starting it because of multiple errors and I also realized that I wasn't "emotionally" ready to start my game that time as it did not hit me yet. 😐 Fortunately this week, I was able to get comfortable when thinking about starting my game hahaha. I decided to start over again as I did not really want my maze to look like a very simple maze. If anyone hasn't seen it here is the link to my Prototype blog to have a quick view.

First Screenshot of my game update

The image above is my new updated maze map that I created. I also did the same first step where I used a Maze Generator to make a quick maze for me. I was also following a YouTube video that I found while doing my research before and it totally helped me to have a fresh start on my game because the tutorial was very straightforward. The Youtuber included the links to the software and website he was using on the video as well.  I also learned how to use the brush tool in the terrain and I was able to experiment using the different types of features of the terrain such as the raised or lower terrain and smooth height.

Second Screenshot of my game showing a raised terrain

I also created my Player, which is the ball in this game of maze. I was able to add a texture to my ball using the textures I imported from the Asset store. However, I have a problem using the plants and other materials on the asset that I downloaded therefore, I might have to look for other suitable assets. I still have to get my coding started and it must be working properly before designing my maze. I was also following the first lesson of Unity Tutorial Unit 4.(Last Week's lab)

Here are a shortlist of what I have done so far on my codings:
  • I created a PlayerController script with a few codings such as connecting the Rigidbody to the player, set a speed and focal point.
  • I created a RotateCamera script for the player. (However, I might remove it if I start to go through other Unity Tutorials.)

I am also delighted with the progress I made for this week even though I did not have many changes to it, I was still able to work on my game with a good outcome!

  1. Hey Flossie! I just read your Prototype and First Playable and have to say I am really impressed with what you have achieved so far. The game looks really good and I love the design of the maze and how it's like a desert. I agree it can be pretty stressful using Unity and trying to get the coding right so your game works and I have struggled a bit too. I really like how you have laid out your blog, the mixture of images and paragraphs has made it much easier to read and the list you included at the end is a good overview of what you have completed this week. Looks like it is going really good for you though so good luck in completing it!

  2. Hey Flossie, i really enjoyed reading about your first playable, Im really impressed with what you have been able to accomplish with your game so far!!! i like the look of your maze and your overall game in general it is definitely a great improvement. Have you tried adding a script the controls the movement and ball at the same time? overall best of luck with the development of your game

  3. Hey Flosie,
Hope all is going well. I just finished reading your blog post and your making great progress so congrats on that. Your game has definitely improved from the last post. I love the texture of your maze makes it look like a dessert I think it just looks magnificent. I don't know if it's possible but maybe if you group the main camera to the main character that's what I did so I didn't have to code it separately.

  4. Hi Flosie, first time seeing your blog and I really enjoyed reading about your game and its first playable. I love the way you already have your maze designed and ready to go. If I was designing a game like this, I would have thought that would be the worst part. Anyways, your maze looks really complicated and challenging to complete, which is exactly what you want in a game like this. Do you plan on adding anything else into the maze? like maybe collectables which could be interesting. Will you be adding a pop up for when you escape the maze, it says you have won? Anyways, it looks really interesting and fun so far, best of luck with finishing it!

Introduction to a future Animator 😁

If you've been reading my blog post since the day I started, you have read my first introduction. However, I haven't really talked about myself. So in this post, I will along with questions from the tasks we have given. 😁 My photo from last year First of all my name is Flosie Jane Sazon, I am currently a 2nd-year student studying Creative Digital Media at the  Technological University of Dublin located in Blanchardstown Campus. I'm 20 years old (even though I don't look my age 😂) and I have been living in Ireland since I was 13. This course wasn't actually my first choice even though I love art. My first choice was something about business and language which was way different from what I'm doing now, but I'm really happy that I'm doing what I love. Even though there were a lot of times convincing my parents but everything went well in the end.😂😂 What was the best class you took last semester? why? Even though I enjoyed Web Development and Design Proc...

Unity Tutorial 04

This week's tutorial lesson was very straightforward and easy to follow. I also did not have any problem with the Unity tutorial videos and the software this time which I am really glad about. I learned how to apply codes that can destroy the objects when the collision is detected. I also know how to add the "Game Over" message in coding if the farmer missed feeding one of the animals. The tutorial lesson also taught us how to spawn the animals at timed intervals so that the animals will appear randomly on the game. Here are the things that I learned for this week's Unity tutorial: Lesson 2.4 New functionality: Animals are spawned on timed interval and walk down on the screen and the animal gets past the player without getting fed, there's a "Game Over" trigger massage at the left bottom of the screen. When the projectile and animal collide, objects are removed right away. New Concepts/Skills: Create custom methods/functions InvokeRepeating() to repeat c...

Time Strategies

Ancient clock As usual, I have been trying to start my last blog for this week, but because I procrastinate so much I never ended up doing it.  I feel like I always keep saying (I'll do it tomorrow morning), knowing very well that I am actually not a morning person!😂 . Anyways.... I am doing it again, moving away from the main topic. *facepalm* Today I will be talking about the time management which is ironic for me as I have been procrastinating before doing this blog. We were given multiple articles to choose from and read at least 2 of them to help us manage our time and keep our head on track with college work. Even though it is only the 2nd week of semester, we already have plenty of things to do, whether it is a tasks or labs. I've already found myself overthinking and feeling pressured to be able to submit the work on time. I also find it hard to stick to my planned timetable for this specific module that I created last week because there are tasks that kept coming. The...
