Unity Tutorial 08

Screenshot of Unity Lesson 4.4 For this week's lab, we have to finish up the lesson of last week's lab. I learn how to spawn the enemies after the player defeated them and they gradually increase starting from 1 to 3 balls and I think that it is an excellent idea as an obstacle because the more enemies the player has, the more excitement it gives. I also learn how to spawn the powerup with every wave giving the player strength to collide with the enemies in a short period of time. I encountered some problems as well such as the last few step of the previous lesson was not saved so I thought that I made some mistakes when I started the lesson. This made me go back to the last lesson and tried to find out what I did wrong making me lost time. Lastly, I was not able to complete this lesson because I could not find the problem when I was doing the last step. It was about spawning powerups with new waves. I tried to check my codes and also in unity and there was no error. Hopefull

Review Week Comments & Feedbacks

Feedback Link Feedback in: 1. How would you rate the quality of the comments and feedback you are receiving from other students in the class? I would the quality of the comments and feedback I am receiving to 10/10 because they give helpful advice and some of them are also encouraging! It also helps me to think that I am not alone when it comes to struggling with specific tasks. 2. What kinds of comments you are finding to be the most useful? The comments that I find most useful are the ones with suggestions about my game and also opinions that are shared with me. It is valuable to me because it could help me to make my game better. Feedback out: 1. Similarly, how would you rate the quality of the comments and feedback you are leaving for other students?  I would rate the quality of the comments and feedback I give to other students' blogs as 8/10. I know that I am trying my best to give good feedback but I am not sure if it is 100% helpful for the student. Sometimes, The project b

Week 9 Reading and Writing

Image Link Hi guys~  This is the first time I write a reading blog again after two weeks! For this week's reading task, we have to go back over to the readings and writing assignments that we did and reflect on them. I used the questions that are given to us. 1. Overall, how well are the reading and writing assignments working for you? I find the reading tasks very useful because I applied the knowledge that I learned from them to my game project. It also makes me consider other things such as what would the future players feel if they play my game i.e. boring, thrilling, or exciting? I also used some of the articles that are essential such as the Game Elements, Game Fun, Exploring Game Design, and especially the Games MDA and GDD. Even though the writing assignments are challenging to do, it still helped me to improve my writing skills. I was also able to learn new vocabulary that makes my writing more professional. I also find that my grammar improved though sometimes I still m

First Playable

Hi guys! How is everyone going? Like some people who viewed my first time creating my game last week, I was really having difficulties starting it because of multiple errors and I also realized that I wasn't "emotionally" ready to start my game that time as it did not hit me yet. 😐 Fortunately this week, I was able to get comfortable when thinking about starting my game hahaha. I decided to start over again as I did not really want my maze to look like a very simple maze. If anyone hasn't seen it here is the link to my Prototype blog to have a quick view. First Screenshot of my game update The image above is my new updated maze map that I created. I also did the same first step where I used a Maze Generator to make a quick maze for me. I was also following a YouTube video that I found while doing my research before and it totally helped me to have a fresh start on my game because the tutorial was very straightforward. The Youtuber included the links to the softw

Unity Tutorial 7

ScreenShot of the game so far lesson 4.2 For this week's Unity Tutorial Lesson, we are learning how to control the player in this hexagonal type of game area. This type of game really gives an exciting feeling and would increase your adrenaline rush as you have to control the ball to prevent it from falling. Even me, as the one who was trying to make this game, is having difficulty when playing it. (I'm just bad at games hahaha) I find the tutorials for this lesson as straightforward and clear. I also try to take notes while listening to the speaker in case the coding he was using would be helpful for my game. The last Lesson for this week might be useful for my game as it shows how to include power-ups during the game and it's one of the main things I want to add to my game. Here are the lists of the things that I learned from this week's tutorial: Lesson 4.1 New functionality: The camera rotates around the island based on horizontal input giving the whole gameplay a

Game Fun

Game Fun The game can be described by the 3 components Mechanics, Dynamics, and Aesthetics (MDA) or otherwise stated as rule - system - "fun" . The three reading selections this week and the synopsis below all address the term "fun" in relation to game design. There are eight types of Fun outlined by the MDA. These types are both a source of reference and player experience that blend together in many ways, and essentially what makes a game engaging and enjoyable.  Eight Types of Fun Box Oxford and Merrian dictionaries define Fun as an enjoyment, delight but within the context of the game, it refers to a form of pleasurable entertainment. MDA papers define the '8 kinds of fun' sensation, fantasy, narrative, challenge, fellowship, discovery, expression, and submission, remain a source of reference and possibly the most popular list of the player interactions combining in various forms to attract each player to a particular game. Extra Credit: H. for Health/Happiness

link For this week's extra credit blog, I decided to do the H.E.A.R.T Challenge. I started watching a video called "Alike" it is a short animation film about a father and a son that has been following the same rules/things as everyone else. One day, as they were going to school and work, someone caught the little boy's attention. It was an old man playing the piano and it really amazed the boy however, his father took him away. One thing that video confirmed for me is that people, in general, are scared to do something different because it's not a common thing to do and they find it a big risk to do.  One new thing (not really) that I have learned from this video is that the father started as a strict parent to his son because he thought that it would be the best for him but he did not realize how his work makes him feel as well until he saw his son started to become paler (unmotivated/unhappy in this film context) because of the rules in the society they're
