Reading 10: Week 22(10) Doing the author bio and adding images

Hi everyone! It's been a while since my last post here and I kinda miss writing blogs. This is the first week we that came back to college (online) and for this module, we are 90% done with our writing project which is great! Today we have to add images, referencing the bibliographies we have used, and also reviewing our work again to make sure that they are good. It did not take me a long time to complete the tasks as I have copies of references for the articles I have used. Adding an author bio was a bit hard since I do not really know how detail we have to be but everything went well and I can't wait till college is over so I will be free!

Reading 09: Giving some feedback on fellow students!

A Let's play image from Pinterest. Hi everyone!  This week's task is not as difficult to compare to the last few weeks as we only have to provide some feedback on other students' work. One thing that I found interesting is that we were given different people to give feedback on and I think that it is a good idea as we can read other people's work and can learn something from them as well. When it was my turn to give feedback, I tried not to be as helpful as I can without sounding too mean because all I want is to also help them improve their work while they are doing the same thing to me. I was also able to learn some writing techniques from other students. The feedback that I received was also very helpful and straightforward. I am also happy that there was not many changes that I had to do on my work and only added some few sentences to improve my work. I hope that I was able to give a helpful feedback to fellow students and improve their own work.

Reading 8: Doing the introduction and conclusion

A brainstorm I made from Miro For this week's tasks, we have to write our main introduction and conclusion of our chapters. I find it challenging as we will have to use the knowledge we have gathered from the research and writings we have done. I had to keep reading my work over and over again because I get distracted so easily. This is when brainstorming become useful to me as I was able to focus on my thoughts step by step! I decided to divide the introduction and conclusion intersect them with the body paragraphs that I have written for the past few weeks. After I read through my work, I then write the important bits that I found and create a statement from it. The videos from our website module were really helpful as I was able to write my introduction and conclusion properly. I also tried my best not to repeat words and information that has already been written but it was still a challenge for me because we must summarise the chapter with our own understanding to help the read...

Reading 07: Applying the Feedback

An image of a typewriter by Mylucie We were given a task this week to review the annotated bibliographies of other students in our year and give them critical feedback at the end. It was interesting to read other student's work because everyone has a unique style of writing therefore it was nice to see how they talk about their topics. It also helped me to recognize what I was missing from my own work and what I needed to improve. For example, I need to include an introduction and a conclusion on each of my themes as I thought we only must write them after we have talked about the themes, however,  I found out that it is also a whole separate introduction and conclusion for the overall topic. I also have to recheck my citations and make sure that I reference my work correctly as well.  I am also happy to get critical feedback from other students as it really helped me to organize and modify my work better. As you open the link above, you will see the texts I added in orange co...

Unity Tutorial 07 : The END~

My Imperfect Game is Done! For this week, we have to finish our 2D Game tutorials, at last! As you can see, my game does not look that great especially when you look at the health bar :( though it's okay as long as my game works, it is all that matters hahaha. I am so happy that I complete the game a week early because then I can focus on the reading tasks more and on other modules as well. To complete this week's tasks, I have to add the audio and music background in the game to prevent the players from bored. We also have to go through the game settings how to change some things e.g. Name of the game, company, and how you want the logo to appear, and lastly, we then download our game to play it. Here are the lists of things that I have learned throughout the week: - In the 2D game, the sounds play at the same volume regardless of wherever the character is on the game. -Meanwhile, in the 3D game,  the sound plays at different volumes, and indifferent speakers based on where...

Unity tutorial 06

A screenshot of my game. For this week, we have to design our game by adding a health bar at the top right corner of the screen. We also have to insert a dialogue box for the Non-Player Character which I found really cool as Ruby goes closer to it, the texts appear. This week's tasks are very relaxed because the instructions were easy and straightforward compared to the previous week. Since I completed the first tasks this week earlier, doing the last part was quick and I also found a video on YouTube called Unity 2D Beginner demonstrating the tutorials as well. I recommend everyone who's struggling with Unity Tutorials to check it out because it was very handy to have since we were used to watching tutorials in a video version last semester. I also encountered some problems during this week. Although, they were not major therefore I fixed them after a while. Here are the lists of the things I have learned this week: - I have discovered how Unity renders a UI, and how we can...

Unity Tutorial 5

Screenshot of my overall work Hi guys, I was not able to upload a new Unity tutorial blog last week as I was not able to fix the problem throughout the whole week and I have had to work on other modules. Therefore, this is the only time I get to write a blog :(. I nearly gave up fixing my game because there were few errors that I do not know came from and I was given a bit of advice to repeat the last tasks I was doing even though the errors were still there so I think of starting over again which made me stressed more! Fortunately, I tried to check my codes again and there it was! I found the missing code and the errors are gone!! You cannot imagine how happy I was hahaha.  Even some of my character is not perfectly working, I was still able to continue working with the other tutorials as it says that it's not a major problem and I can just go back and fix it anytime whenever I want to so it is all good! I also find this week's tutorial easy enough and it did not have many ...

Reading 06: Doing our first literature review

Writing Image. Annotated Bibliography  link. For this week's writing task, we have to begin writing the content of our first literature review which is referring to the themes we have gathered from the annotated bibliography notes that we have written for the past two weeks. I found I challenging to write the literature review as the themes I have are all connected. Therefore, I had to make sure that they are in order to show a better understanding of each theme. I also realized this week that I did our last week's tasks wrong because we supposed to highlight the themes from our annotated bibliographies not from the articles we have gathered so I ended up doing it again but it was not a difficult task so I was able to finish it quick. It was also hard for me to choose the right information to include in my literature review because my notes were long and it really took me a while to decide what points are important to talk about. There we also some other topics that I think wou...

Tech-Tip: Hashtags and Retweets

Screenshot of what I retweeted For this week's extra credit task, I decided to do the retweeting and using hashtags. The image above shows what I've retweeted. This image came up when I searched #OU3043 and I really like this painting because of its contrast and how the light focuses on the center of the painting making its viewers look straight into the middle. I also tried to look up some hashtags and I found a lot of essential and interesting artworks from #cartoon #art that I checked. I love drawing and I am starting to find my own style and I think that this would really help me improve my drawing skills.

Unity Tutorial 04

A screenshot of my work while adding animation A screenshot of the errors I've encountered. Hi guys, this week's tutorial is getting more difficult as we have to add an animation to the game to show that the player is moving physically in the game and we also have to do the same for the Enemy Controller. However, after fixing the errors from last week, another problem occurred while I am at the end of the last tutorial. My Enemy Controller is only moving to the right and I do not know how to fix that. There was also an error saying that the code "Move X" and "broken" does not exist even though it was the right code from the tutorial. Even though I was having a lot of trouble completing this week's tutorial, I was able to fix myPlayer Controller and add a projectile to it which was her weapon.  I still could not complete this week's tutorials but I will try my best to fix them the next week!

Reading 05 : Tips for doing research

Pictures of some of the Articles I have completed reading For this week's reading task, I am glad that I was already doing the techniques that were instructed for us to do. I was very delighted as I was already highlighting important things before as I read the essential articles that I have collected from last week. This was the reason why I was behind with work because it is taking me a while to read an article as I was taking notes while I go through the article to help me save time when I started to write my annotated bibliographies. I also found out that I can insert the PDFs to the Notes application on my tablet therefore it made it easier for me to work and read the articles even though I am not working on my table. During this week, I tried my best to read the rest of the articles I have found and started writing my annotated bibliographies in a more detailed version and make sure that the articles must but useful to my topic. Coding the articles to take notes is very hel...

Reading 04 Analysis

Controller picture For this week's reading tasks, I have to collect more research about my topic. I needed to have at least 6-7 more articles to read. I find these tasks very challenging as I could spend reading one article for more than an hour because I have to check some of the words' meaning to help me understand. I spent the whole weekend researching my topic and I did not have any trouble finding useful articles because I learned a few keywords from last week's reading task. I also realized that we can access few libraries by signing up with our student account and this really helped me to access several useful articles. I added the links of the articles on my word document to help me find them in case I deleted them by accident. To secure the research I have collected more, I also added the documents on my RefWorks account. This also helped me to check the documents I have read and created a bibliography quicker. It also took me more time to write my annotated bibl...

Unity Tutorial 03

A screenshot of my work showing the collectibles not working. A screenshot of my work having another error. I was having trouble completing the tutorial for this week's Unity Tutorial. I encountered several errors along the way and I was not sure why because my coding was working perfectly fine last week. I also tried to redo the tutorial but I still could not pinpoint what was the problem. It was very bothersome for me as well trying to find out what was the problem. I was thinking that it has something to do about the tilemaps but I couldn't figure it out still :(. Unfortunately, the only thing that worked for me was being able to make my player work again and I ended up not having the collectibles to work at all. Therefore, I decided to try again this week, and hopefully, it will get better! I apologize for having a short blog this week. I will try my best to try again this week!

Tech Tip: Twitter Widget

Screenshot of my blog showing my Twitter Widget. Hi guys, welcome back to my blog! For this week, (4th week Twitter task) I decided to redo my widget on my blog account since I changed my theme, why not change it as well? Right? Hahaha. I used my personal Twitter account as that is where I post my Unity tutorials and reading updates as well. The Tech Tip instructions are very easy to follow and you guys should check it out! :)

Reading 03

Reflection An image of the notes I wrote while reading the Articles. Hi everyone! For this week's reading task, we were instructed to set up our research about the topic we chose for our Writing project. We will also have to create annotated bibliographies for the first three articles, books, or documents that we have discovered as well as writing a short summary. At first, I found it challenging to start doing my research as I do not have enough effective keywords that I could use. Therefore, I only found few books that I thought would be useful for my chosen topic.  Before starting this project, I was confident that I had enough knowledge about the Hierarchy of challenges in gameplay. However, I was wrong as this topic is very broad and it was difficult for me to find the specific articles and documents...

Unity Tutorial 02

Unity Tutorial 02 screenshot of my work. For this week's Unity Tutorial, we must complete two things such as decorating the world of our 2D games using the tiles that we converted into sprites. I had fun decorating my game and I really took time to place the objects where I think it looks good. I think it is good that we can design our game as we can add as many things as we can. I also learned how to add a physics system to our player controller therefore it does not fall when I play the game. I was also thought about how to adjust the box collider in the 2D version and it does not really have a difference between the 3D versions. Problem: While I was doing the tutorial, I was distracted by the heading of the "Ruby Controller" as the first letter was not in a capital letter. I decided to rename and when I added new codes onto the player, it was not working anymore, and I was having trouble looking for the error. I tried again the next day and it still did not work as I h...

Tech Tip: Blogger Template

A screenshot of my new blog template! Hi guys! I decided to change my blogger template as it is a new semester. (New semester, new template hahaha) I really like this theme because the orange background colour stands out from the dark theme of this template. I also change the font colour on the Title header, and the colour of the link when it hovers. I hope you like as much as I do!

Planning

Image of my brainstorm from Notes. Hi guys, it is me again!  For this blog, I will talk about how I will plan my research strategy for our Writing Project. The first topic that I decided to write about is Gameplay, focusing especially on the Hierarchy of Challenges in a game. I remember we read an article about this topic during the last semester and I was really interested in it. A topic such as how the level of difficulty can affect the player mentally and how do we plan it really stood out to me. I am looking forward to doing my research and being able to write a book about it! This week, a staff from the Library, Lindsay, visited us during our lecture to talk about how the online library site could help us gather information for our writing project. She also went through the website of the Library such as how to use it, how to borrow a book online, and most importantly, she showed us how to reference correctly and organize our work in an easier way by using RefWorks ...

2D Unity Tutorial 1

Ruby's Adventure   2D Unity Tutorial screenshot of my work. Hi guys! It is been a while since my last blog post here and I kind of missed writing here.  My first ever blog post for this semester is about my Unity Tutorial in 2D. The tutorial for this week has four parts and each has different stages to complete. The first part was going through the layout of Unity again, but this time it is in the 2D version. The instructions were straightforward and the only difference from the 3D tutorial is that they are only texts and few demonstrations which I think is not bad as well. Sometimes, I have to look up video tutorials in some parts of the tutorials because it is hard to envision it. Especially when I started to design my game using the Tile Palette. Luckily, I found this helpful video showing how to use it. I feel comfortable coding a 2D game even though this is my first time doing it. It is clearer and easier to understand than 3D in my opinion. Hopefully, I will still ...

Beta

When Unity takes a long time to load Screenshot with the sound effects Hi guys~ For this week's project update, I tried to create my menu scene again but I still have a LOT of problems. At first, I tried to follow the same tutorial from this week's lab work task  and sadly it still did not work even though Shaun advised that I should not use the TextMesh Pro font as we thought it was the one that causes the problem. The tutorial was straightforward, but Unity kept crashing down, and even though I have all of it save during the process, everything that I have done still got deleted. I decided to look for another tutorial for the Main Menu, I found this 5-minute video tutorial . I find it helpful and it is simpler than the first tutorial. Unfortunately, while I'm nearly done making it, Unity crashed again, so I ended up having nothing is done which is very frustrating because I want to make a decent game by the end of this semester and Unity isn't cooperating :(. The only...
